Tracie McGovern in Italy wins the prize for being the first fan to notice the bizarre coincidence between The Damned playing Solfest and my daughter's name, Eloise! For those who don't know:

"Eloise" is a pop song first released in 1968. It was sung by Barry Ryan, and written by his twin brother Paul Ryan.

In 1986 The Damned released their cover of the track as a single. They were rewarded with their biggest hit, when it reached number 3 in the UK Singles Chart.

Eloise, Solfest & a free download

Dear music lovers - good things and not so good things...

I am sad to say that we have had to pull out of Solfest due to musician unavailability. It seems we would have been playing on the same stage as The Damned, as well - big shame! I know there was a handful of you planning to join us, all the way up in Cumbria, so I am sorry to let you down, but I do hope you still go and have a whale of a time...

She's arrived!

And so, the big day finally came...

My first child, a daughter, arrived at midday on Father's Day, Sunday 20th June 201, weighing in at 7lbs 8oz (3.4kg), 49cm long and with a head measurement of 34cm (for those that like the details!)

She was hypnobirthed at home in water between the hours of 02.00 and 12.00 with no intervention or drugs or gas and air and I was brilliantly supported by two baby dads, one grandma, two midwives, two cats and one puppy, Dusty. It was truly the most fulfilling and empowering experience of my life.

Our baby girl has yet to be named, much to many people's disappointment, although we are trialing a name at the moment and have booked the last possible registrar appointment!

As you can imagine, the music has taken a back seat, however, amazingly, I was being played some footage from the album launch the other day whilst holding the baby and she immediately went into a completely relaxed state. I suppose she was with me throughout much of the writing, recording and performing of the album, only on the inside, so she is completely familiar with it! The power of music.

Baby's first gig:

Solfest, Cumbria, Saturday August 28th 2010. I know it's far but if you jsut happened to be in the area...!

Naked in the sun

Yesterday, Dusty and I ventured to South London to see our lovely friend and talented photographer, David Hews. I thought it was about time I had some pregnant nude shots - the bump is finally big enough to be offered a seat on the bus, although it's amazing how many people seem to lose the ability to look up when there's a pregnant woman standing bump-to-face next to them. Good ol' London life - can't beat it. God, I miss my bike.

Anyway, back to saaf London and David's sunny garden - what a lovely, relaxed session we had. It was a glorious day and I really enjoyed the freedom of bearing bump and all in the undergrowth.

Dusty joined in aswell, of course - uninvited, but very welcome. She's an amazingly natural model and seems to have cultivated several looks - left ear up, right ear up, both ears down and all variations with either tongue in or out. She's very talented, my girl. unlike her mum, for whom it's taken years of arduous acting headshot shoots to finally let go and think 'who cares!' Mind you, getting my kit off has never been a problem and in fact, I think it helps!

Bank holiday mutterings

Another May bank hol - so what's new?

Dusty is on heat...hence the knickers. Not very dignified but that's life. She now stops at every lamp post and tree to let the boys know she's in town and I shall have to be extremely careful around ovulation time. I have discovered her wandering the flat with her knickers in her mouth, so I'm afraid, my little girl has turned into a number one hussy...innocent no more. Shall probably let her have some pups when she's two, so we've got a few seasons to go...

Talking of hussies and pups, you may know that my own is due second half of June - the plan: at home, hypnobirthing in a pool. All very exciting. bound to be life-changing but it won't stop the music and baby's first festival will be:

Solfest - August Bank Holiday. Why not come along? The day we play is yet TBC so watch this space. Lovely part of the world, Cumbria.

As for other gigs, nothing booked at the mo. due to baby prep but any suggestions of lovely, friendly venues are welcomed. You could recommend us or let me know the venue and I'll get in touch.

Great gig at Spekki Chris' evening THE HOME SERVICE in Manor House on Saturday.

Thanks for having us, Spekki - lovely crowd, lovely venue and great line-up. The Easy Tigers were a slimmed down crew, which actually left a lot of pleasant space in the music.

Thank you to Al The Emergency Bassman for sitting in at the last minute on three tunes - what a musical chap you are! Sounded great.

Getting there...
Mixing is almost complete and I am in the luxurious but tricky position of having to pick ten tracks out of seventeen to go on the album. Rest assured that the 'spares' will be released on an EP later this year...

I had a successful photo shoot with Tom Andrew tomandrew.co.uk around Islington and Hackney which was slightly hampered by rain. Dusty was happy, though, as we smuggled her into a cafe and she had her first fry-up. Lucky puppy!

We shall be doing a warm-up gig at The White Lion in Streatham on Friday 19th March in preparation for the launch of Cycling in Stilettos on Thursday April 1st which will be in Clerkenwell (Barbican and Farringdon tubes) details to follow.
